#9 | Letter from V-Day UK July 2010
Hi Jan,
Thank you so much for your continued support of V-Day Tender. Your contribution is supporting our work towards ending violence against women at home and abroad.
In some villages of North Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, three out of four women have been raped. V-Day works to raise awareness, influence the international community and offer healing to survivors. The City of Joy centre, built in partnership with UNICEF and the Panzi foundation, offers a place for women to stay while they recover from the emotional and physical traumas they have experienced as a result of rape. V-Day offers training, therapy and shelter to these women to help them to turn their pain into power.
In the UK, two women a week are murdered by their partners or ex-partners. We are working hard to prevent these violent relationships from forming. We work directly with around 250 young people every term. Using drama and the arts, we engage with them over the issues of abuse. Our workshops equip young people with the ability to identify the early warning signs of violent relationships. We challenge the attitudes of tolerance towards violence and victim-blaming. We also offer advice and information about steps to take and people to contact if these young people do find themselves trapped in an abusive relationship.
By making the very generous decision to donate a portion of Liberty Bodies proceeds to our charity, you are contributing in a very real way to the projects listed above as well as many others. Your engagement encourages us to continue our work in the knowledge that we have dedicated supporters behind us.
Best of luck with all Liberty Bodies’ work. We will continue to let our network know about the support you have offered us and the fun and beautiful products you sell.
